Freeboot Friday

On September 28, the Pitt County Chapter of the American Red Cross attended Uptown Greenville’s Freeboot Friday.

Freeboot Friday is an event held in the center of Greenville directed toward the East Carolina University fan base. Masses of people attend the free event that occurs Friday nights before home football games. Sporting their purple and pirate attire, guests are presented live music, food, drinks, and prizes among other attractions sure to satisfy all ages.

The American Red Cross frequently attends the event, supplying the community with information on disaster services, getting prepared, classes and other services. On this particular Friday, the table was a popular one among the kiddies. Two volunteers were offering face painting and temporary tattoos which created quite a long line that lasted the entire event – start to finish. Children were also encouraged to create holiday cards for our heroes in the armed forces.

Other businesses around Greenville also attended the event with free loot for people to collect. Newspapers were being crafted into swords for children and people of all ages seemed to enjoy some slingshot airplanes.

Food and drinks were available for purchase within the event, including beer and wine for those 21 and over.

With sunny skies and comfortable temperatures, this particular Freeboot Friday was surely a success for both Uptown Greenville and the American Red Cross.

The American Red Cross booth will be at Free Boot Friday, Oct 12, Oct 26 and November 2 from 5-8pm at 4th and Cotanche Uptown Greenville.  Come join us to sign holiday cards for members and veterans of the armed forces!  For more information about your local Red Cross and how you can get involved contact the Pitt County Chapter at 252-355-3800.
